Using Flash to develop for the iPhone

by daem0n on Wed, October 7th 2009 under Development | 0 Comments

So I've been seeing some articles recently regarding new abilities to export your Flash Applications into iPhone native applications to run on your iphone as well as submit to the AppStore. After seeing this link from Adobe Labs, I'm actually quite impressed. The fact that this just created at least some thousands upon thousands of new potential developers for iPhone apps is pretty much great news for current iphone users.

On top of that I'm hoping that we are getting near to a point where Apple realizes the importance of including flash and possibly modifies their EULA or do whatever legal hoops they need to do to start supporting flash in Safari on iphone. That might be alot to ask for now, and still might not ever happen, but with Palm Pre announcing that they will start supporting flash in their mobile browser by year end, should hopefully give a push in the right direction to Apple.

Blueprint Screencast

by daem0n on Fri, October 2nd 2009 under Development | 0 Comments

I have been given the opportunity to substitute some projects in my Cutting-Edge Web Technology class with screencasts on a topic of my choice, so long as that it makes sense for the course as well as be useful for the other students. After falling in love with BlueprintCSS, I decided it was totally appropriate to use that as the topic for my first screencast.

It is meant for web designers who atleast have some knowledge on html and css design, and gives a start to finish example of how to get started with BlueprintCSS. Check it out and give me some feedback! (Click the read more link to watch the screencast) My next screencast will most likely be a tutorial on building an MVC based website using CakePHP, so check for that soon!

daem0n MVC?

by daem0n on Mon, April 6th 2009 under Development | 0 Comments

When I first started this little personal portal / blog site, I was initially expecting a little project to help keep my web programming abilities sharp and updated. As I got deeper into the project, I started really getting into the code and making it a personal goal to do everything as beautifully as possible. I first thought I could get away with just having a simple page and controller class, but as I started getting to more advanced functions of the page with more database interaction, I realized having a model class is necessary.

Now, I've developed some database access layers in the past for companies I've worked for, so I could have just taken the guts of one of those, but I decided to rewrite a completely new model/db class from the ground up and do this right. I guess the best part of doing personal projects is not being in the constraints of a time critical project, or taking orders from ridiculous CEO's that have no understanding of what it takes to build a backend. I get to write this on my own terms, my own time frame, and my own rules :) So, expect minimal updates until I get the model/db to a more usable state.

Uploads working again :)

by daem0n on Fri, April 3rd 2009 under Development | 0 Comments

So I've been wasting plenty of time working on the framework for this site and I must say it's coming along quite nicely :D After getting some necessary pieces working properly in the backend, I finally got the Uploads system working again. So for any of you people that need to send me some quick files, that's all back up and running. (Although the Private? feature is not working, and won't be until I get user accounts/registration up, which should be within the next few days at the pace im going.)

Coming along

by daem0n on Tue, March 31st 2009 under Development | 0 Comments

This little project turning out to be quite a time killer lol. I guess I'll always have something to do during those boring classes now :) Will probably take a while since im doing my best to make all the backend code gorgeous and intuitive. No sloppiness here :-D everything is object oriented and well formed, why you ask? Because i can.
